Rohm and Haas to lay off 200

September 11, 2007

Rohm and Haas Co. will lay off 200 employees in a restructuring that it anticipates will save the Philadelphia chemical company $15 million, reports. The restructuring will directly hit the Philadelphia area. It includes closing a digital imaging operation in Bristol, Pa., that makes material for laser jet ink. That closure will account for 20 jobs, the company said. Around 30 research jobs will also be cut in the Philadelphia area, mostly in the suburbs, while roughly 24 administrative jobs will be eliminated at the Philadelphia headquarters and other locations. Other restructuring moves include relocating some research-and-development operations outside of North America and reducing manufacturing, administrative and business service operations. Rohm and Haas expects to complete the restructuring by mid-2008
