SABMiller to spend $125 million more in India

December 4, 2006

According to bizjournals.com, SABMiller plc, the owner of Miller Brewing Co. in Milwaukee, plans to spend another $125 million on its brewing operations in India over the next two to three years. Milwaukee-based Miller is St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc.''s top domestic competitor. The spending will increase the London-based company''s recent investment in India to nearly $250 million. In September, the global brewer purchased Foster''s India for about $120 million. SABMiller India is the second largest brewer in that country behind United Breweries Ltd., a joint venture with U.K.-brewer Scottish & Newcastle. SABMiller plans to extend Foster''s Lager through its national network of breweries and gain cost benefits from local brewing and distribution operations.
