Seven injured in Sun Chemical plant explosion

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Seven workers were injured in an explosion and subsequent fire at the Sun Chemical plant in East Rutherford, N.J., on Tuesday, NBC New York reported.

The explosion occurred as workers were mixing carbon and vegetable oil for use in newspaper ink. Fire officials said they do not what caused the blast.

Five workers are in fair condition at a local medical center and two others were transported to the burn unit.

Sun Chemical is the world’s largest producer of printing inks and pigments, according to the company’s website.
