Wisconsin paper mill pays $22,500 fine after explosion
February 16, 2009
A paper mill in northern Wisconsin has paid fines of $22,500 following an explosion that killed three workers and injured a fourth last year, according to the Associated Press. Packaging Corp. of America in Tomahawk had until last week to contest the fines issued last month by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. An OSHA spokesman said the company instead paid the fines last week. OSHA doesn''t reveal how fines were resolved until the 15-day response period has ended. The Lake Forest, Ill., company was cited for four "serious" violations, including poor ventilation for flammable gases. The spokesman for the company says those problems are fully or nearly fixed.
