Worker found dead at pork packing plant

February 22, 2012

CLINTON, N.C. — A worker at a Smithfield pork packing plant was found dead Saturday with his head in the opening of a waste tanker, WRAL.com reported.

A preliminary investigation showed that the worker, 26-year-old Brandon Christopher Taylor, was cleaning out the tanker when he became overcome by fumes and went into cardiac arrest.

The state Department of Labor will test the air quality around the tanker to determine if any breathing apparatus was required for the work Taylor was doing, according to the story.
