Worker killed at Total Petrochemicals plant
PORT ARTHUR, Texas — A 65-year-old contractor was killed Tuesday at the Total Petrochemicals & Refining Inc. plant in Port Arthur, Texas, when he became trapped as he was digging a fire water distribution trench, orangeleader.com reported.
The man was performing construction at the plant on behalf of Mason Construction.
He was rushed to Christus St. Mary Hospital where medical staff pronounced him dead.
The man’s name has not been released pending family notification.
“The person in question was a good employee,” said Chad Mason, vice president of administration at Mason Construction. “He had been with the company for 30 years.”
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
