Workers poisoned at chemical plant in eastern China

BEIJING — Four workers died and two suffered injuries after being exposed to cyanide at a chemical plant in eastern China, Xinhua reported.

The incident took place Saturday in Dongyang in Zhejiang province.

One worker was poisoned while cleaning the plating cesspool in the Jinluoma Development Co. Ltd. plant. Another five were poisoned during rescue efforts.

As of noon on Sunday, four workers had died in the hospital due to cyanide poisoning. Another two people hospitalized were in stable condition.

Local authorities have initiated safety checks for all electroplating and chemical plants in Dongyang.
