The Associated Press is reporting that one of the nation''s largest chemical companies is planning to move some manufacturing now done at its electronics plant in Newark to a plant in Taiwan.
The Newark plant makes materials for the semiconductor and flat panel industries.
The decision means about 70 jobs will be cut in Delaware. About 800 people work at the plant.
Philadelphia-based Rohm & Haas cites a shrinking paint market and weakening economic conditions for the move. It''s part of a broader restructuring plan that includes the closure of plants in California and Kentucky. In all, about 925 jobs will be cut, primarily in North America.
The cutbacks are expected to save $110 million dollars by 2010.
