NEWBURGH, N.Y. — A state of emergency was declared Friday in the town of Newburgh, N.Y., where a ruptured pipeline released approximately 3 million gallons of sewage, Newsday.com reported.
The 130-year-old pipeline burst Oct. 4, spilling wastewater into Quassaic Creek and the Hudson River.

According to City Manager Richard Herbek, emergency repairs cost $800,000, but long-term repairs could cost the city millions.
Mayor Judy Kennedy said there was no immediate health danger, and the spill did not affect the city’s drinking water.
