WASHINGTON — An outbreak of human Salmonella Infantis infections has been linked to multiple brands of dog food produced by Diamond Pet Foods at a single production facility in Gaston, S.C., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A total of 49 cases of human infections with the outbreak strain were reported.

The numbers of new cases have declined substantially since the peak in April–May, but illnesses are still being reported among people who came into contact with the recalled product after the recall, which was issued April 6.

Victims became ill after handling the contaminated dry food or after contact with animals that had eaten the food.

No deaths have been reported.
