Yokogawa Electric Corporation has developed the YS1000 series of single-loop controllers, which offer improved connectivity with supervisory control systems and incorporate new, enhanced features that help operators work more efficiently. The YS1000 series will be released for sale in January 2007. While its predecessors use Yokogawa’s own communication protocol for connection with PCs and supervisory control systems, the YS1000 series can be used with general-use communication protocols such as Ethernet and Modbus, adding flexibility to system construction. The YS1000’s new color LCD can display a message informing the plant operator that an alarm has been triggered. The improved visual display of such information helps operators reduce errors. The YS1000 has a depth of 25 cm, 7 cm less than the preceding model, and weighs just 1.6 kg, 40 percent lighter than the previous model. This allows a smaller control board, thereby decreasing the cost of system construction.
