The Associated Press reports Smithfield Foods Corp. President and Chief Executive C. Larry Pope received compensation the company valued at $3.56 million in its fiscal 2008 year, according to a regulatory filing. Pope, 53, has been president and CEO of the nation''s largest hog producer and pork processor since September 2006. A proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission said Pope, who was president and chief operating officer from 2001 to 2006, was paid a base salary of $1.1 million. He received a cash bonus worth more than $2.4 million and other compensation worth $35,812. The perks included personal use of company aircraft, a company-leased vehicle and life insurance.
