CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. — Two workers were injured Wednesday morning in an explosion at the O.C. Lugo chemical facility in Connellsville, Pa., CBS Pittsburgh reported.
The blast occurred as the employees were mixing red phosphorus and fiberglass powder — a task the workers complete daily in the manufacturing of igniters for military oxygen generators.
Investigators have not yet determined what led to the explosion.
“It could have been static electricity. It could have been a spark. It could have been just about anything,” Connellsville Police Chief James Capitos said.
