NASHVILLE — Firefighters used a crane to rescue a subcontractor who had fallen eight feet into a sludge tank at a wastewater treatment plant in Bordeaux, Tenn., Tuesday morning, WSMV Channel 4 reported.

The 57-year-old worker fell off a ladder around 6:30 a.m. and landed in the sludge tank where he became trapped.

After about two hours, crews used a crane to rescue the man.

"His injuries are to the leg, back, neck and shoulder. He may have a leg fracture, but we can''t confirm until he gets to hospital," said Nashville Fire Department Asst. Chief of Special Operations Mike Franklin.

The worker was decontaminated and rushed to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he remains hospitalized.
