Separation & filtration special look

March 30, 2017

The March filtration/separation cover series looks at OSHA’s silica rule, intake filter silencers and high-speed turbo blowers with intake filter silencers.

With a new year begins new trade shows and conferences, and 2017 has plenty to offer. Our team recently returned from the 2017 AHR Expo in Las Vegas. We learned how this industry is booming and how many manufacturers have equipment in this space. As evidenced by record-breaking attendance, the visitors were also interested in the educational sessions and exhibit hall this year. At a little more than 68,600, the increase was 11.2 percent more than the last highest attendance. We were happy to be among the enthusiastic crowd and visited many industry friends, including Eaton and Fluke, during the show. Visit www.processingmagazine.com/tag/blog to read my blog, which summarizes some of the new technology unveiled during the event. March also saw our team in New York for INTERPHEX, where we once again enjoyed learning about the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries.

Our team spoke with Fluke’s Frederic Baudart, IIoT and condition monitoring expert, about the company’s new Fluke Connect, which was on display during the AHR Expo 2017.

In this issue’s cover series on filtration and separation, compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s new silica rule is detailed (see HERE). This article describes the key provisions of the rule and discusses how to determine compliance and the options for compliance using dust collectors. HERE, intake filter silencers for blowers, fans and compressors are featured. New high-speed turbo blowers with intake filter silencers reduce inlet losses and extend maintenance intervals, saving time and money.

This month’s special section features instrumentation for level measurement. HERE, condensate level measurement to ensure efficient steam use and balancing boiler drum level are detailed. Modern sensors with 80-gigahertz-transmission frequency for the radar measurements of powder are the focus HERE.

We enjoyed welcoming spring and seeing all our friends at INTERPHEX. Thanks to all those who stopped by and said hello.

Sincerely,
