Oil refinery hits 100 percent reuse with help from GE

The Federated Co-Operatives Limited’s Co-Op Refinery Complex of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, will become the first refinery in North America to recycle all wastewater for steam production. The refinery’s decision to upgrade its wastewater system came after increased its operations from 100,000 barrels of oil per day to 130,000, which also increased wastewater production.

The refinery is in the process of installing ZeeWeed membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology with a high-efficiency reverse osmosis (HERO) system from GE for the wastewater improvement project. The advanced water recycling system will allow the refinery to recycle and reuse 2 million gallons of wastewater each day. The project also will also the refinery to reduce its freshwater consumption by 28 percent and decrease volatile organic compound emissions.

ASTM International presents President’s Leadership Award

Sudarsan Rachuri, a founding member and vice chair of the ASTM sustainable manufacturing standards development subcommittee, received the 2016 ASTM International President’s Leadership Award. Rachuri was given the award for his work as editor in chief of ASTM International’s Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing Systems journal, which will begin publication in January 2017, for which he has recruited more than 50 academic and industrial experts from around the world who will contribute editorial and advisory services.

Rachuri is the federal program manager for the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute and holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a master’s degree in applied mathematics, and a master’s and Ph.D. in aerospace engineering.

KEYENCE named one of Forbes World’s Most Innovative

KEYENCE Corporation, a leader in research and development, manufacturing automation and quality assurance solutions, has been named to Forbes’ annual list of the World’s 100 Most Innovative Companies. This marks the sixth consecutive year Forbes has included KEYENCE on the list. KEYENCE, which was ranked number 64 on the list, and the other companies on the list were chosen and ranked based upon their likelihood of inventing "the next big innovation."

Bunting names new CFO

Magnet and magnetic equipment design, manufacturing and distribution company, Bunting Magnetics Company, announced its new chief financial officer, Steven Peiffer. As CFO, Peiffer will oversee all four Bunting Magnetics divisions’’ financial reporting, budgets, accounting and human resources. Peiffer previously was senior manager a leading accounting firm located in Wichita, Kansas.

Parson Peebles announces new COO

Graeme Robertson has been named Parsons Peebles’ new chief operating officer. Robertson joins as the company is working to become the number one electromechanical products and services provider. Robertson brings extensive electromechanical executive-level experience and previously worked with the Sulzer Organization where he held a number of senior roles and worked in the Parson Peebles market.

Flexicon opens new German office

Flexicon Ltd. opened a new office in Aschaffenburg, Germany, in an effort to expand its factory-direct engineering services and technical sales offerings across the country. The German location will be headed by Regional Sales Manager Christian Löchler, who comes with 20 years  of experience in plastics processing, compounding, and recycling and holds a degree in plastic processing technology engineering. This effort is expected to help fuel rapid growth for the company in Germany.

A new service facility from Siemens Power Generation Services has opened in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.
