Star announced that a six diode version of its award-winning ESL55-EX LED sight glass light has received ATEX approval, making an extra -bright LED light available for hazardous environments that require stainless steel housings. The new light has twice as many LEDs as the standard version. ATEX is a directive mandating the stringent testing and certification of equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres established by the European Union in 2003. The explosion-proof ESL55-EX sight glass light, which features six high-power LEDs in a stainless steel housing, is ATEX certified as safe to use near gas (within ATEX Zones 1 & 2 and Group IIC) as well as safe to use in environments that contain dust (within ATEX Zones 21 & 22 and Group IIIC). A design that will not create a spark and a sealed enclosure make the ESL55-EX sight glass light ideal for use in environments where the potential exists for the presence of explosive gas or an explosive dust.
