Water treatment and waste management company Suez Environnement has opened a monitoring center in northern France to manage its remote meter reading and Smart Water infrastructure in France and overseas.

The Smart Operation Center will continuously monitor the infrastructure of remote meter reading networks for services such as water and gas, as well as Smart Water — the company's intelligent management solutions for water and sanitation networks, which include Aquadvanced for optimizing drinking water networks and INFLUX for rainwater management.

The new facility is directly linked to regional control centers, ensuring that these centers have access to reliable data to optimize the running of networks and plants over given areas and plan any interventions necessary for the proper functioning of the water cycle (production, distribution, sanitation), the French company said.

Comprehensive monitoring systems allow Suez Environnement to detect the signs of any incident (leaks, meter failure, falling pressure levels, etc.) as early as possible, in order to alert water services managers and reduce response times in resolving any possible issues.

The ultimate aim of the Smart Operation Center is to support water operators and local authorities in the sustainable management of their resources by monitoring all environmental smart devices, including water, gas and multi-fluid meters as well as sensors for voluntary waste drop-off receptacles, Suez Environnement said.

Through its subsidiary, Ondeo Systems, the company has sold more than 2 million remote meter readers in Europe, 1.4 million of which are already in operation.
