Houston tops list of best cities for chemical engineers

Consumer finance website ValuePenguin has released its list of the top 20 cities for chemical engineers, and Houston, Texas, came out on top.

Consumer finance website ValuePenguin has released its list of the top 20 cities for chemical engineers, and Houston, Texas, came out on top.

ValuePenguin based its list on three key statistics: median annual pay, cost of living and location quotient, which measures the concentration of chemical engineers living in a city as a proportion of all occupations relative to the national average.

The top five cities are:

  1. Houston, Texas
  2. Beaumont, Texas
  3. Baton Rouge, La.
  4. Wilmington, Del.
  5. Lake Charles, La.

According to ValuePenguin, chemical engineers working in the Houston area get paid 30% more than the U.S. median salary of $90,300. It also has a high concentration of chemical engineers and the sixth lowest cost of living in the study.
