The MPPE unit will be used for Shell’s Prelude FLNG project in Australia, the largest offshore floating facility ever built at 488 meters long and 74 meters wide.

Samsung has awarded VWS MPP Systems, a subsidiary of Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, a contract to supply a Macro Porous Polymer Extraction (MPPE) water purification unit for a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility.

The MPPE unit will be used for Shell’s Prelude FLNG project in Australia, the largest offshore floating facility ever built at 488 meters long and 74 meters wide.

During the production of natural gas, formation and dehydration water is co-produced containing dissolved and dispersed aromatic, aliphatic and polyaromatic hydrocarbons. Veolia says its MPPE system removes toxic dissolved and dispersed hydrocarbons with the aim of reaching zero harmful discharge.

Samsung Heavy Industries is one of the largest shipbuilders in the world and has the world’s largest dry dock, which makes the production of the Shell FLNG possible.
