One of the 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year is following a longtime trend in material handling. In addition to rose quartz, Pantone has named serenity blue its color of the year, while the most popular color for one material handling manager in 2015 was royal blue, according to a new report.
For plastics rotomolder MODRoto, royal blue ranks as the 2015’s most popular color based on total units purchased for the company’s line of bulk containers, laundry carts and recycling carts. The blue marked approximately 50 percent of unit sales, while black and forest green, popular among recycling managers, were the runners-up.
"Our royal blue and powder blue are very close to Pantone serenity blue and they’re available as standard colors," said MODRoto President and COO J.R. Ryan, who notes an uptick in the selection of bright, custom colors this year. "There’s a growing realization that our containers and carts can provide a very visible marketing platform for our customers."
Each year color authority Pantone selects a color snapshot of what it sees in culture that serves to express mood and an attitude. According to its website, serenity is "weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times."
