According to a new report by research and analysis firm TechNavio, the global water treatment products market is predicted to grow at an annual rate of 4 percent between 2011 and 2015 and by 6.25 percent over the period between 2012 and 2016.
The report looks at the projected development of the market in North and South America, the EMEA region and Asia Pacific. It draws upon detailed analysis of the market landscape and the likely changes it is going to go through over the next few years and aims to provide decision makers with insight into the market. The research was carried out using a combination of primary and secondary information, such as inputs from major participants in the industry.
According to the report, there are several factors that are expected to shape the future global water treatment products market. One of the strongest driving forces for growth will be the increased contamination of water, particularly in certain geographical areas.

Another important factor to consider is the exhaustion of fresh water resources, which could mean that products for desalination and filtration will see rising demand. However, market growth might be hindered by issues regarding wastewater treatment residue management, TechNavio stated. Looking further ahead, the report predicts that the demand for fresh water is expected to exceed supply by 2025. This makes recoverability and recycling of water a major issue.
TechNavio said that the need for clean water will be the primary influence on the development of the market by 2016. Despite the fact that there are many water resources worldwide, the majority of them are contaminated and the water is not suitable for use. There are countries where only about 15 percent of the available water resources are drinkable and they cannot meet the domestic demand for clean water. This has resulted in water scarcity in areas like Afghanistan, authors of the report noted.
The report also looks at the key vendors of water treatment products, which include the American giants Nalco Holding Co., GE Infrastructure Water and Process Technologies Inc., Ashland Inc. and Danaher Corp., as well as Japan's Kurita Water Industries Ltd. and Germany-headquartered BASF SE. A SWOT analysis of the key vendors is also featured in the report.
