Nidec expands line of vertical pump motors for severe duty environments

New equipment features improved conduit box sealing, cast iron frame, brackets and fan cover guard, and through-the-bearing lubrication for better expelling of used grease.

(ST. LOUIS — March 28, 2024 — Nidec Release) — Nidec Motor Corporation has expanded its line of Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) vertical motors, with a new medium-high thrust motor and enhancements to its medium thrust inline motor. These two U.S. MOTORS products are available in frame sizes 182 through 286 and are specifically engineered for use in severe duty environments.

The motors drive pumps that are used in industries such as water/wastewater, petrochemical, power and mining. They feature improved conduit box sealing, cast iron frame, brackets and fan cover guard, and through-the-bearing lubrication for better expelling of used grease, which extends motor life and is particularly critical for vertical motors. The motors also include an option to meet API® 610 driver requirements.

“These new motor offerings are the result of listening to feedback from customers and adding the features they wanted,” said John Frese, Senior Product Manager, U.S. MOTORS Division.  “At Nidec we are always looking to innovate to meet evolving needs, across all the industries we serve. This is a good example of how we do that.”

The new CTV-3 & TVC-3 medium-high thrust is intended for use on vertical turbine pumping applications that do not require a non-reverse ratchet where the motor’s thrust bearings can provide an acceptable L-10 bearing life. This product is available in Hostile Duty and CORRO-DUTY constructions. This product can be provided in full compliance with API 610 shaft, flange and endplay tolerances as an option.

The TVC-9 medium thrust CORRO-DUTY motor is designed for use with ANSI B73.1 and API 610 vertical in-line centrifugal pumps that require the motor to manage the axial loading. A rigid connection between the pump shaft and the motor shaft allows the motor bearings to support the thrust loads generated by the pump's impeller. API 610 tolerances are also available as an option on this product.
