PACK EXPO East 2026 to highlight artificial intelligence, automation, and sustainability
PACK EXPO East 2026 will showcase how packaging and processing manufacturers are applying artificial intelligence, automation, and flexible equipment to address labor shortages, supply chain disruption, and rising customer expectations. The event takes place Feb. 17–19 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
According to PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, manufacturers are shifting from testing new technologies to using them as everyday operational tools. Artificial intelligence is increasingly applied to optimize production lines, improve data visibility, predict maintenance needs, and support regulatory compliance, helping facilities reduce downtime and improve product quality.
Automation and robotics continue to expand across packaging lines, particularly in case packing, palletizing, and pick-and-place applications. These systems are helping manufacturers improve throughput while reducing dependence on manual labor. At the same time, equipment designs are becoming more modular, enabling faster changeovers, shorter runs, and greater flexibility to manage growing SKU complexity.
Sustainability remains a central theme across both packaging and processing. Exhibits highlight recyclable, compostable, and lightweight packaging formats, along with processing systems designed to reduce energy and water consumption. Flexible packaging formats, including pouches and flow wraps, are also gaining attention for their efficiency and reduced material use.
Processing equipment on display reflects increased emphasis on hygienic design, food safety, and reliability. Digitalization and Industry 4.0 integration are improving real-time monitoring and performance insight, while predictive maintenance technologies help facilities identify potential failures before they disrupt operations.
Produced by PMMI, PACK EXPO East 2026 features more than 500 exhibitors across 125,000 net square feet, serving over 40 vertical markets such as food and beverage, life sciences, and industrial products. New additions include the Containers and Materials Pavilion and the Reusable Packaging Pavilion, which focus on emerging material innovations and reusable systems.
The event also offers free educational programming addressing artificial intelligence, automation, sustainability, food safety, and upcoming industry initiatives such as Sunrise 2027. According to PMMI, the 2026 show reflects how manufacturers are building more efficient, resilient, and adaptable operations to remain competitive in a changing market.
