METTLER TOLEDO releases five-step contamination prevention eGuide
Food safety and contamination prevention are the focus of a new eGuide released by METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection Group, aimed at helping manufacturers reduce the risk of physical contamination and product recalls.
The eGuide, titled “5 Steps to Prevent Physical Contamination,” provides a structured framework for food processors and packers to identify risks, strengthen inspection processes, and implement proactive prevention strategies. According to METTLER TOLEDO, foreign material contamination remains a leading cause of product recalls worldwide, with even minor incidents posing significant risks to brand reputation and consumer safety.
The guide outlines five core areas of food safety management: risk assessment, identification of production weak points, selection of appropriate inspection technologies, future-proofing inspection systems, and use of digital data management tools to support compliance.
According to Tom Koshy, National Sales Director at METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection, the eGuide is designed to translate regulatory requirements into practical actions for manufacturers. He noted that the content draws on the company’s experience to help organizations move from reactive responses to more proactive contamination prevention.
The resource also examines the role of inspection technologies such as metal detection and X-ray systems in identifying and removing contaminants from production lines. It highlights how integrating these systems with digital solutions, including the company’s ProdX software, can improve traceability, support regulatory compliance, and enhance operational efficiency.
METTLER TOLEDO states that the eGuide is intended to help manufacturers strengthen food safety programs while adapting to evolving regulatory requirements and increasing scrutiny across the global food supply chain.
