Barilla invests $145 million to expand New York pasta manufacturing

New production and packaging lines will help Barilla meet growing demand while supporting future facility growth.

Barilla will invest $145 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Avon, New York, in a project designed to increase pasta production capacity, strengthen supply chain operations, and create more than 90 new jobs.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the two-phase expansion plan for the Livingston County facility, where Barilla has operated since 2007. Phase One includes construction of a new 52,000-square-foot manufacturing building, the addition of one production line and three packaging lines, and a new warehouse for storage and distribution.

The expansion will also provide space for a second production line planned as part of a future Phase Two investment.

According to Barilla, the project will help the company meet growing demand in the United States while supporting long-term operational growth. The company said the expansion will strengthen its North American supply chain and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 3,000 tons annually.

Barilla manufactures a range of pasta products at the Avon facility, which serves the U.S. market. The company also operates a production facility in Iowa and maintains manufacturing operations in multiple countries worldwide.

New York State is supporting the project through up to $2.75 million in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Tax Credits tied to Barilla’s job creation commitments. Additional support is being considered by the New York Power Authority, while National Grid, Rochester Gas and Electric, Livingston County, and Greater Rochester Enterprise are also assisting with the expansion effort.

Barilla expects to complete Phase One of the expansion by March 2028. The investment builds on the company’s original $75 million investment in the Avon facility, which opened in 2007 and currently supports approximately 145 jobs in the region.
