Alfa Laval invests in food innovation with new Food & Pharma Division
Alfa Laval has launched its new Food & Pharma Division, a strategic reorganization designed to strengthen its food processing business while expanding its focus on pharmaceutical manufacturing.
According to Alfa Laval, the new division creates a more specialized organizational structure with dedicated customer pathways and increased investment in research and development. While the company has broadened its pharmaceutical focus, food processing remains the primary business within the division, spanning dairy, beverages, edible oils, meat and fish processing, alternative proteins and fermentation-based production.
Sammy Hulpiau, President of Alfa Laval's Food & Pharma Division, said the new structure is intended to help the company better support food and beverage manufacturers as production requirements continue to evolve.
The division combines Alfa Laval's technologies in separation, heat transfer and fluid handling with recent product introductions, including hygienic WideGap heat exchangers for fibrous fluids and Foodec Oil Plus decanters for fat extraction. The company also highlighted technologies such as PureFerm separators and the Alfa Laval Fermentation System, which support emerging food production methods.
According to Alfa Laval, the reorganization will provide customers with improved access to specialized engineering expertise to help optimize production performance, increase uptime, improve yields, and reduce water and energy consumption while supporting new production opportunities.
The company said it is also expanding its innovation infrastructure. In addition to its existing Application & Innovation Centre in Kolding, Denmark, and technology laboratory in Flemingsberg, Sweden, Alfa Laval plans to open a 1,200-square-meter Food Application & Innovation Centre in Copenhagen in spring 2027. The facility will serve as a collaboration hub for customers and industry partners developing future food processing technologies.
Alfa Laval said the organizational changes and expanded innovation investments are intended to help food manufacturers address evolving production demands while supporting the development of next-generation food manufacturing solutions.
