Smith & Loveless Inc. is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2026, marking eight decades of manufacturing engineered pumping, wastewater treatment and fluid purification systems.

Founded in 1946, the company serves municipalities, utilities, federal and military facilities, commercial industries and mining operations. Its systems are used across North America and in more than 75 countries.

Smith & Loveless said its product portfolio includes solids-handling pumps, packaged pumping systems, screening and grit removal equipment, wastewater treatment systems and fluid purification technologies.

According to Frank J. Rebori, president of Smith & Loveless Inc., the company has focused on developing systems that address the practical challenges of infrastructure design, operation and maintenance.

Over its history, the company has introduced several technologies for wastewater collection and treatment. These include a factory-built sewage pump station in 1948 and a solids-handling centrifugal pump designed specifically for sewage transfer in 1956.

The company also developed a factory-built packaged wastewater treatment plant in 1957. Later product developments included the PISTA Grit Chamber, FAST fixed-biofilm wastewater treatment system, DI-SEP SX Filter and X-PELLER pump impeller.

More recent developments include advanced vortex grit removal technologies, touchscreen programmable logic controller controls, membrane bioreactor systems and the TITAN MEM-BOX packaged membrane system launched in 2025.

Smith & Loveless designs and manufactures its systems in the United States while supporting projects worldwide. The company said its manufacturing capabilities can help customers meet domestic sourcing requirements associated with federally funded infrastructure programs.

As it enters its ninth decade, Smith & Loveless plans to continue developing technologies for aging infrastructure, workforce and operational challenges, and evolving regulatory requirements.

The company said its future product development will focus on reducing lifecycle costs, improving operator safety and supporting long-term reliability and resilient water and wastewater infrastructure.
