ROSS DPM-750 double planetary mixer

ROSS has completed the largest Double Planetary Mixer ever built by its United States operations, a Model DPM-750 designed to process up to 750 gallons of ultra-high-viscosity material per batch. The system is engineered for production in a Class I, Division 1, Group D hazardous environment and incorporates safety features required for operating in those conditions.

According to ROSS, the mixer is powered by a 150-horsepower inverter-duty motor that drives a pair of High Viscosity stirrers in a planetary motion suited for dense, sticky, or stiff formulations. The system supports vacuum mixing to 29.5 inches of mercury, which reduces entrapped air and improves overall dispersion. Its vacuum hood includes ports for ingredient addition, exhaust, and process observation.

Product-contact components are made of type 304 stainless steel with an 80-grit finish, and interchangeable mix cans allow producers to run varying batch sizes. A dual-post hydraulic lift, equipped with a 10-horsepower explosion-proof motor and dual hydraulic pumps, positions the agitators and mix can. Safety interlocks prevent operation when the equipment is not correctly aligned.

The mixer is paired with a ram-type discharge system designed for rapid batch transfer and simplified cleaning. The hydraulic system maintains 60 PSI under the platen, pushing a full 750-gallon batch through a 4-inch flush tank ball valve within minutes. As the platen moves downward, its O-ring wipes residual product from the mix can walls to maximize yield.

ROSS reports that the system delivers the torque, safety performance, and throughput required for large-scale processing of ultra-high-viscosity materials.
