Finish Thompson introduces SX Series explosion-proof drum pump motor
Finish Thompson Inc. has announced the launch of its SX Series explosion-proof electric motor for drum and barrel pump applications used in hazardous environments.
Designed for use with Finish Thompson EFS Series drum and container pumps, the SX Series supports the transfer of flammable, combustible, and corrosive fluids in hazardous locations. According to the company, the motor is engineered to deliver reliable electric performance while meeting explosion-proof and flame-proof safety requirements for global operations.
The SX Series features a two-speed motor capable of delivering up to 17 gallons per minute at full speed and 7 gallons per minute at low speed for non-flammable fluids. For flammable or combustible liquids, the motor delivers flow rates up to 4 gallons per minute. At full speed, the motor can empty a 55-gallon drum in just over three minutes, while the lower speed setting enables controlled filling of smaller containers with reduced splashing.
Weighing 6.6 pounds, the SX motor is designed for easy handling while supporting continuous operation without overheating. A built-in grounding lug allows the motor, pump tube, and container to be bonded and grounded together to help dissipate static electricity during transfer operations.
Finish Thompson offers the SX Series in three models to support worldwide hazardous location requirements. The S1X model operates at 115 volts and is certified explosion-proof and flame-proof for Class 1, Division 1, Group D environments with a T3 temperature rating. The S2X model operates at 230 volts and is certified for international standards, including Conformité Européenne, ATmosphères EXplosibles, and International Electrotechnical Commission Explosive certifications, for II 2G Ex db IIB T5 Gb environments. For higher ambient temperatures, the S3X-HT model is rated for operation up to 140°F.
All SX Series models include a 12-foot power cord to support flexible installation and access to power sources in industrial facilities.
