PowTReX metal powder conveying system

Volkmann USA, a powder handling equipment manufacturer based in Bristol, Pennsylvania, has introduced the next generation of its PowTReX metal powder conveying system for additive manufacturing environments.

Originally launched in 2018, the updated PowTReX system is designed to support manufacturers producing high volumes of metal parts using multiple 3D printers. The system automates the transfer of metal powders from storage containers or supply hoppers, extracts used powder following completed build jobs, and screens material to remove oversize particles before collecting it for reuse.

According to Volkmann USA, the PowTReX system uses proprietary material handling technology that has been deployed in more than 100 additive manufacturing installations worldwide. The system draws powder from storage using vacuum conveying into a buffer, feeds material to an ultrasonic screener, and separates agglomerates while allowing on-spec powder to continue through the process.

The enclosed, explosion-proof design protects metal powders from contamination and limits worker exposure by eliminating manual handling. The portable system can be installed with 3D printers from all manufacturers and supports a wide range of materials, including tungsten, cobalt, silver, stainless steel, titanium, nickel chrome, copper, and carbide dust.

Volkmann USA also offers PowTReX with an optional inert gas configuration for applications requiring additional environmental control.
