Custom-engineered powder and bulk material handling hoppers from Automated Flexible Conveyor (AFC) are designed to automatically regulate material flow in conveying systems.

According to the company, the steel hoppers are equipped with integrated high-level rotary switches that initiate discharge when material reaches a preset level and shut down operation when the hopper is empty. The system also activates an alarm to signal when additional material is required, helping prevent dry running conditions that can lead to excessive heat buildup and accelerated wear in downstream conveyors.

Material flows continuously from the hopper discharge to the conveyor infeed, allowing for uninterrupted transfer while protecting conveying equipment. The hoppers were initially designed for a co-packer handling green coffee beans and other free-flowing materials.

To support future process changes, the hoppers include fittings for air diffusers, enabling the handling of non-free-flowing materials such as starches, salts, and animal feed supplements. AFC offers a range of optional features, including vibrators, dust control covers, stainless steel construction, and sanitary finishes, with dimensions tailored to specific material properties and throughput requirements.

The custom hoppers are designed and manufactured at AFC’s New Jersey facility, where the company also provides product and material testing in its on-site test laboratory.
