Atlas Copco launches GHS 402–902 VSD⁺ vacuum pump series

The second-generation GHS VSD⁺ pumps adjust vacuum output to process demand, helping manufacturers reduce power consumption.

Atlas Copco has launched the GHS 402–902 VSD vacuum pump series, introducing a second generation of oil-sealed screw vacuum pumps designed to improve energy efficiency, pumping speed, and process performance in industrial applications.

The new GHS 402–902 VSD models use constant pressure setpoint control to adjust vacuum generation according to process demand. According to Atlas Copco, the pumps deliver high pumping speeds from atmospheric pressure to ultimate pressure, helping users achieve faster pump-down times while reducing energy consumption.

The vacuum pumps are designed for applications including food packaging, vacuum cooling of flowers and vegetables, and thermoforming of plastics and white goods.

The series incorporates a next-generation oil-injected screw element, a high-efficiency IE5 motor, and HEX@ connectivity for remote monitoring, diagnostics, and intelligent control. Atlas Copco says these features help lower operating costs, extend maintenance intervals, and support sustainability objectives.

A new vertically mounted, fully integrated oil-cooled drivetrain contributes to a footprint of less than one square meter while also reducing noise levels. The company states that the design is approximately 30% more compact than previous models and reduces oil-discharge levels by half.

Atlas Copco also reports that the GHS 402–902 VSD pumps can recover up to 80% of generated heat as reusable hot water. An optimized oil-separator vessel improves oil retention, supporting cleaner exhaust performance and reduced environmental impact.
