Spring-assisted safety hinge improves worker safety on process equipment covers
Readco Kurimoto, LLC has introduced the RK Safety Hinge, a spring-assisted hinge designed to reduce lifting strain and improve operator safety when opening heavy covers on tanks, reaction vessels, pressure vessels, mixers, and other process equipment.
The RK Safety Hinge uses a proprietary spring-assisted mechanism that can reduce the lifting weight of equipment covers by up to 80% without requiring electrical power. When opened, the hinge holds the cover in place with an integrated safety pin. During closure, the mechanism helps control the cover’s descent to reduce the risk of pinch points and other handling hazards.
The stainless-steel hinge is designed for food, chemical, pharmaceutical, and other manufacturing environments where equipment may require frequent washdowns or outdoor installation. The waterproof design supports permanent placement in demanding operating conditions.
The RK Safety Hinge product line includes seven standard models for covers weighing from 13 pounds to 293 pounds. Custom options are available to accommodate different port dimensions, materials, and environmental requirements.
The hinge can be retrofitted onto existing tanks, vessels, mixers, reactors, and other process equipment or installed by original equipment manufacturers during equipment production. Readco Kurimoto also offers demonstrations of the RK Safety Hinge at its York, Pennsylvania test laboratory.
