Ross high shear mixer handles 45-gallon pilot-scale batches
Ross Model HSM-105 portable high-shear mixer is designed for pilot-scale liquid and slurry processing in a range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, ink, adhesives, chemicals and coatings. The mixer has a 45-gallon working capacity and supports mixing, emulsification and homogenization applications.
The mixer uses a 5-horsepower explosion-proof motor to drive a four-blade, 3.5-inch-diameter rotor at speeds up to 3,600 rpm. Operating within a close-tolerance slotted stator, the rotor generates intense hydraulic shear and expels product at high velocity into the surrounding mixture.
The portable vessel features a dished bottom and flush-mounted 2-inch ball valve for product discharge and cleaning. A thermowell installed in the vessel sidewall allows operators to monitor batch temperature.
The vessel has stainless-steel legs, casters and a handle, allowing operators to move the vessel around the production floor. The vessel cover includes a hinged loading section, lifting lugs and clamps for securing it to the vessel.
A NEMA 12 control panel includes a 5-horsepower variable frequency drive and a 4-inch color touchscreen. Operators can use the interface to start and stop the mixer, adjust and monitor speed, track motor load and batch temperature, and set cycle times.
Safety features include an emergency stop button, a main disconnect with lockout provision, motor fuse protection and a safety circuit provision.
The mixer is offered as a vessel-mounted unit or in a standalone configuration for servicing multiple vessels. Available customizations include heating and cooling jackets, a vacuum/pressure design, high-polish wetted surfaces, specialized valves and ports, and washdown motors.
