New developments in oil & gas refinery equipment

April 28, 2017

Equipment developments help oil and gas facilities prevent accidents, protect the environment and efficiently generate essential products.

During the first week of May, our team will attend and exhibit at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston. The oil and gas business segment is another area in which experts must adhere to strict safety (personnel and equipment) and governmental regulations. From drilling and production to refining and distribution, oil and gas facilities must take great care to prevent accidents, protect the environment and efficiently generate essential products for ultimate end use.

In our April cover series on refinery equipment, the design and maintenance of equipment (including heat exchangers and columns) through technology maturity and process engineering is discussed.

Because of refineries’ integrated nature, the design and analysis of equipment must be carried out by considering the equipment’s role within the processes of the whole plant. Ideally, solutions should offer the development of a refinery-wide process simulation model that is both manageable and accurate. In this same vein, we feature a case study on how a process control system for an integrated compressor helped ease the equipment’s addition, reduce costs and simplify operations at a liquefied natural gas facility.

Emissions monitoring using sensors equipped with ultraviolet light emitting diodes (UVC LEDs) in refineries and other facilities is another topic covered in our April issue. The article explains how UVC LEDs are less expensive and more energy efficient, providing real-time data.

In April’s special section on tanks and vessels, hydrocarbons are once again featured. A new vapor and fire suppression system for oil and gas storage is detailed. This new technique uses engineered composite beads instead of water, which can be vital in water-scarce or frigid regions.

We will be excited to be at OTC in May. Please come by Booth 6324 to chat about the magazine or the industry. I will have booth hours on May 2 and May 3 from 10 to 11 a.m.

Sincerely,
