Siemens’ modules for the first heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) for the Siemens Mega project in Egypt have begun their journey from South Korea to the Beni Suef power plant.

Siemens begins Egypt project

Siemens’ modules for the first heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) for the Siemens Mega project in Egypt have begun their journey from South Korea to the Beni Suef power plant. NEM, as part of Siemens, is delivering a total of 24 HRSGs for this Mega project, which includes three 4.8 gigawatt turnkey combined cycle power plants in Beni Suef, Burullus and New Capital. In total, eight boilers will be installed in each plant.

WELTEC BIOPOWER expands to Columbia

WELTEC BIOPOWER is building an anaerobic digestion plant for Columbia’s largest egg producer. The 800-kW biogas plant is set to go live in early 2017. In regards to feedstock input, the operator Incubadora Santander, which produces nearly 3.5 millions eggs a day, plans to make use of the co-digestion of dry chicken manure from the laying hens and process water from the production.

GMPIU to merge with USW

The Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers International Union (GMPIU) approved a merger with the United Steelworkers (USW) at its 75th quadrennial convention. The merger unites two historic international unions with complimentary memberships in the United States and Canada. The GMPIU represents nearly 25,000 craft and industrial workers primarily in glass, foundries, molding, plastics and pottery as well as ceramics, china, fiberglass and insulation, and other industries. The USW represents 850,000 men and women employed in metals, mining, pulp and paper, rubber, chemicals, glass, auto supply and the energy-producing industries, along with a growing number of workers in public sector and service occupations.

Stedman Machine Company expands facility

The Stedman Machine Company expanded its testing and toll processing facility with two horizontal-shaft impactors and a vertical roller mill fine grinding system. Other full-size equipment includes cage mills, vertical shaft impactors, hammer mills, vertical roller mills and lump breakers. Open, closed circuit, and air-swept systems can be used for pre-purchase testing, process development and toll processing.

BioSafe Systems expands to Michigan

BioSafe Systems announced its expansion of a new production site in Coldwater, Michigan. This location will allow BioSafe Systems to manufacture, house and ship all BioSafe Systems’ peroxyacetic acid chemistries, including all EPA registered and OMRI listed products as well as FDA intervention products which comply with FCN #1501 and #1554, for the meat and poultry marketplace.

Siemens to supply steam turbines to Great Britain and the U.S.

Siemens has recently received orders from customers in Great Britain and the United States for a total of nine compact steam turbines. The turbines are to be manufactured at Siemens’ production site in Frankenthal, Germany. Three SST-040 turbines have been ordered by the Dutch energy provider Kara Energy Systems B.V. for biomass power plants in Great Britain, while the U.S.-based company Airclean Energy in Seattle has placed an order for six SST-110 compact steam turbines.

Rheonix Inc. announces expansion and new leadership

Rheonix Inc. announced its expansion in food and beverage testing with the introduction of the Encompass Optimum workstation for food and beverage testing and the hiring of two food safety executives. The Encompass Optimum workstation enables detection of up to 22 targets per sample with a single pipetting step and 15-minute hands-on time, enabling technicians to place 12 or 24 enriched samples on the workstation, press "go" and walk away. Furthermore, Brooke Schwartz joins Rheonix as vice president of strategy and marketing and Morgan Wallace, Ph.D., joins Rheonix as scientific director, applied markets, and will lead development of commercial validated assays for food and beverage testing.

Kalenborn Abresist announces new management

Kalenborn Abresist Corporation announced Craig Frendewey, senior vice president, will take full responsibility of its North American operations. These operations include Kalenborn Abresist, Kalenborn Canada and Kalenborn Technologies. Craig Frendewey first joined the company in 2013 as sales manager and was later named senior vice president of sales and marketing. He is a graduate of Northern Michigan University and has over 30 years of experience in industrial distribution and specialty contracting within the power generation, mining, pulp and paper and oil and gas markets.

Eaton names new Board of Directors

Eaton announced that Dorothy C. Thompson has been appointed to the company’s Board of Directors. Thompson is group chief executive and a director of Drax Group plc, a U.K.-based power generation company. She was appointed CEO of Drax Group plc in September 2005 and to the company’s Board of Directors in October 2005.

Acme-Hardesty names three new regional sales managers

Acme-Hardesty recently appointed three new general sales managers. Brad Merz is the new regional sales manager for the Midwest region, covering Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and West Virginia. Tom Koutsos is now the regional sales manager for the Midwest region based out of Chicago. Ron Barker is the new regional sales manager for the western region, based in Redondo Beach, California.

Baldor Electric Co. names new product management director

Baldor Electric Co. named Ryan Waite director of motor product management for its global NEMA motor business. Waite is responsible for the rapid global growth of Baldor Reliance motors sales as well as implementing the strategic vision for the business.

Bunting Magnetics Co. names new product manager for its metal detection line

Bunting Magnetics Co. appointed Andrew Blubaugh as its product manager over metal detection. Blubaugh will manage the growth and profitability of the company’s line of metal detection products by supporting the company’s sales team, identifying new markets and customers, improving the product and enhancing the accompanying service and warranty programs.

C.H. Hanson celebrates its 150th anniversary

C.H. Hanson, one of the nation’s oldest manufacturers and a family-run company for five generations, recently celebrated its 150th anniversary at its Naperville, Illinois, headquarters.

The company was founded in 1866 by Christian Henry Hanson, a Danish immigrant and stencil maker. The company now manufactures and distributes more than 5,000 products worldwide for projects such as metalworking, industrial marketing, construction and more.

ASTM awarded three $10,000 scholarships to doctoral students. David Buckley of Clemson University, Mohammad Mahtabi of Mississippi State University and Joel Kulesza of the University of Michigan received the ASTM scholarships.
