Promise Confections, a Pittsburgh-based subsidiary of Promise Holdings, LLC, has notified the State of Minnesota that it will permanently close its Pearson’s Candy Company factory in St. Paul and eliminate the jobs of all 80 employees at the plant. The company said that it has notified the affected employees and anticipates that the closure will take place on September 28, 2026.

"At this time, we’re looking to move certain key brands of Pearson's to a strategic partner and we’ll continue to explore all options in order to make these legacy products,” the company said in a statement. “This decision was made after careful consideration and reflects the current business and economic environment."

Pearson’s Candy Company was founded in 1909 by P. Edward Pearson and has operated from the St. Paul plant on W. 7th Street since 1959. The is known for its Nut Goodie bar, which debuted in 1912, and its Salted Nut Roll, which was introduced in 1933.
