The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) has named Shakeel Kadri chief engineer, expanding his leadership responsibilities to include global technical outreach and engagement with chemical engineering societies.

Kadri will continue serving as chief executive officer of AIChE’s Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS), a position he has held since 2015.

As chief engineer, Kadri will represent AIChE in global engagements and strengthen relationships with partner organizations, industry and academia. His responsibilities will span chemical engineering activities in education, research, development and production.

“Through his leadership of CCPS, Shakeel has helped establish AIChE and CCPS as a global leader in process safety,” said Victor Bohnert, AIChE executive director and CEO.

Bohnert said the expanded role will extend Kadri’s engagement across AIChE and strengthen partnerships with other professional societies.

Kadri has led CCPS since 2015, focusing on process safety education, risk management, leadership and professional credentialing. Before joining CCPS, he spent 36 years at Air Products and Chemicals in roles covering process engineering, technology, operations, quality, environmental health and safety, and process safety.

He ultimately served as director of global process safety and risk management at Air Products and Chemicals.

Kadri is a Fellow of AIChE and CCPS. In 2025, he received the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center’s Trevor Kletz Merit Award for his contributions to process safety.
