Martin Engineering has launched a new generation of dust control equipment for conveyor transfer points, including ApronSeal Urethane Skirting, GravitySeal Self-Adjusting Urethane Skirting, and the A.I.R. Control Dust Curtain. Designed for retrofitting onto existing conveyors, the systems control airborne dust without using energy and incorporate safety features for external servicing.

The ApronSeal Urethane Skirting extends along the skirtboard to provide a tight primary seal, with an optional self-adjusting outer flap to accommodate belt profile variations. The system requires as little as two inches of free belt area and is suitable for speeds up to 900 fpm (4.5 m/s). Its chemical-resistant urethane offers low friction and extended wear life, with a high-temperature option available.

GravitySeal Self-Adjusting Urethane Skirting uses torsion arms to follow vertical belt fluctuations, maintaining a reliable seal and preventing spillage. The system operates on conveyors up to 1,300 fpm (6.5 m/s) and requires minimal free edge space, automatically compensating for wear to reduce maintenance downtime. Urethane strips are available in continuous lengths up to 300 feet (91.4 m) and can be replaced quickly with pre-punched units.

The A.I.R. Control Dust Curtain provides modular urethane flaps that create controlled recirculation zones, allowing dust particles to settle near the load. The system is adjustable and replaceable from outside the transfer point, eliminating the need for confined-space entry and reducing service time.

According to Bert Erdmann, Global Engineering Manager of Conveyor Products at Martin Engineering, the focus of these solutions is safety, performance, and longevity. “Compliance and ease of maintenance are top-of-mind for our customers. We’ve discovered that passive dust and spillage control at the point of emission with safe maintenance built in is the most effective and economical method of containment,” he said.

When installed together, ApronSeal, GravitySeal, and A.I.R. Control provide a highly effective passive dust control solution, improving compliance with air quality and workplace safety regulations while reducing operating costs compared to energy-intensive filtration or dust collection systems.
