Gericke USA unveils gas-tight lump breaker for pneumatic conveying lines
Gericke USA has introduced a gas-tight lump breaker designed for integration into dense phase pneumatic conveying systems, enabling automated particle size reduction under pressure.
According to Gericke USA, the gas-tight Nibbler GNB lump breaker combines a stainless-steel pressure vessel housing, a heavy-duty geared motor, and application-specific sealing to match the pressure generated by the conveying system. The unit is rated for pressures up to 1.5 bar and is engineered to operate safely in gas-tight and dust-tight conditions.
Installed upstream of the conveyor pickup point, the Nibbler GNB reduces both dry and wet solids to a controlled particle size range between 1 mm and 25 mm. This sizing supports the formation of pulsed material slugs required for efficient dense phase pneumatic conveying.
The lump breaker uses a rotating paddle assembly to cut and shear material through a screen, rather than grinding. The design leverages compressed air pressure to prevent screen blinding and minimizes heat generation and energy consumption during operation.
Gericke USA states that the Nibbler GNB is available in standard sizes ranging from 200 mm to 1,200 mm, with throughput capacities up to 50,000 kg/hr. Custom configurations are also available for high-pressure applications across the food, chemical, mineral, and pharmaceutical industries.
The company offers material testing for the lump breaker at its New Jersey test facility to support system design and performance validation.
