Groth releases bi-directional flame arresters for flammable gas piping systems

The new Groth Models 76E-UF and 76E-AF help inhibit flame propagation while minimizing system pressure drop.

Groth Corporation has introduced the Models 76E-UF and 76E-AF Flame Arresters, designed to inhibit flame propagation in industrial gas piping systems and protect low-pressure tanks containing flammable liquids.

According to Groth Corporation, the new flame arresters are engineered for applications involving flammable vapors and gases, helping operators reduce fire risks and improve operational reliability in hazardous industrial environments.

The Models 76E-UF and 76E-AF feature a bi-directional design that protects systems regardless of flow direction or ignition source location. Groth said the flame arrester element geometry is designed to maximize flame-quenching performance while minimizing pressure drop across the system.

The new models are available in connection sizes ranging from 2 inches to 12 inches with 150# ASME connections, with DIN bolting options available. Standard housing materials include carbon steel and stainless steel, while the flame elements are constructed from 316 stainless steel for corrosion resistance.

Groth said the flame arresters are designed for operating temperatures from -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C). The company also offers factory-installed thermocouples for flame sensing and detection.

The Model 76E-AF is available with ATEX certification in compliance with EN ISO 16852:2016 standards. The flame arresters are suitable for gases with a Maximum Experimental Safe Gap of 0.90 mm or greater, including IEC IIA and NEC D gas groups.

The products use a spiral-wound, crimped ribbon flame element design intended for industrial applications where uptime and safety are critical.

Groth stated that flow testing for the new flame arresters was verified by LRQA in Houston, Texas, using procedures based on API 2000, ISO 28300, and ISO 16852 standards.

The Models 76E-UF and 76E-AF Flame Arresters are now available through Groth Corporation and its authorized representatives worldwide.
