Volkmann USA unveils containment bulk bag unloader for hazardous materials
Process equipment manufacturer Volkmann USA has introduced a containment bulk bag unloader designed to improve safety when handling hazardous bulk materials.
The closed, sealed system allows a single operator to transfer toxic, ignitable, allergenic, and other hazardous materials from bulk bags, sacks, and flexible intermediate bulk containers into downstream processes automatically. According to Volkmann USA, the system is designed to minimize worker exposure to hazardous materials while reducing dust release and contamination risks.
The containment bag emptying station is intended for applications involving battery manufacturing materials such as cobalt, manganese, and nickel, as well as allergenic products including gluten, peanuts, and soy.
The system features dust-tight docking and an integrated glove box that allows operators to access the bag and spout inside the tie box without direct contact with the material. Operators can untie and prepare bulk bags for discharge while remaining isolated from the product throughout the unloading process.
Volkmann USA said the bulk bag unloading system integrates with its pneumatic vacuum conveyors to support contained downstream material transfer.
The containment big bag unloader is available in stainless steel or carbon steel configurations and can be customized to fit specific space, application, and regulatory requirements. Optional accessories include bag massagers, vibrators, lump breakers, and other material handling components.
