Fortress Technology launches compact X-ray inspection and checkweigher
Fortress Technology will unveil the Icon X-ray and Checkweigher Combination System at PACK EXPO 2026, combining product inspection and weighing in a single IP65-rated stainless-steel frame.
The system uses X-ray inspection to detect metal, glass, plastics and bone while simultaneously checking package weight, fill levels and missing components.
By integrating inspection and weighing into one machine, Fortress Technology says the system reduces the footprint associated with modular inspection equipment. The design also consolidates safety features and reduces floor contact points to support hygienic production.
The Icon system uses a unified human-machine interface to manage its functions. An optional camera system provides real-time monitoring of product flow.
IA+ filtering is designed to identify contaminants in complex products while distinguishing them from product edges, air pockets and overlapping components.
The system is available with four belt widths for applications ranging from dairy, meat and baked goods to non-food products. Reject configurations can also be adapted to different product formats, including air blast systems for lightweight products and drop-nose or retractable conveyors for larger or delicate products.
The system contains X-ray radiation internally, eliminating the need for external lead shielding. Metal detection can also be integrated into the same frame.
For maintenance, the system uses a passive-cooling X-ray generator. Fortress Technology also offers an adaptation of its Automatic Testing technology, which can be configured for specific product weights and formats to verify rejection following a contamination event.
For data management and security, the system supports OPC Unified Architecture and Ethernet for data logging and remote oversight. RFID access controls can be used to secure sensitive system parameters and audit information.
