Siemens manufactures and tests world’s largest geared compressor rotor
The world’s largest geared compressor rotor, with a first-stage impeller measuring 1.8 meters, was engineer ed and tested by Siemens at its Duisburg, Germany, facility. The impeller was balanced at a speed of 3,970 rpm, with the outside diameter of the first-stage impeller rotating at 1,350 km/h.
The compressor was designed for the air-seperation unit of the Jazan Gas Projects Company’s (in collaboration with a U.S.-headquartered industrial gases company) integrated gasification combined cycle power plant (IGCC) in Saudi Arabia. The compressors are expected to be commissioned and erected starting in 2018. The air separation plant is set to be the largest industrial gas complex in the world.
CHA Consulting’s senior VP named Energy Engineer of the Year by the AEE
The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) presented its Energy Engineer of the Year award for the northeast region to Rich Rappa, senior vice president and market leader of manufacturing and energy for CHA Consulting Inc. AEE awards the Energy Engineer of the Year designation each year to those in the industry who readily promote the practices principles and procedures of energy engineer.
Rappa’s work as an energy efficiency innovator, speaker, leader and mentor for the industry, in addition to his professional pursuits, won him the recognition of the AEE. He has lead the way in energy efficiency in manufacturing as well as helped change the way organizations thing about energy efficiency. Rappa’s work also gave way to industrial energy assistance public policy.
AEE presented rapper the award during the World Energy Engineering Congress in September in Washington D.C.
MCAA appoints new president
Teresa Sebring has been named president of the the Measurement, Control & Automation Association (MCAA). Her appointment went into effect August 1 after approval by the organization’s board of directors. Sebring replaces Cynthia Esher in the role, who will continue to be involved with MCAA in her retirement. Sebring previously served as vice president of MCAA.
