Pharmaceutical packaging services provider PCI has expanded its presence in the European Union with the acquisition of Biotec Services International.
Bill Mitchell, CEO and president of PCI, said that Biotec was a natural fit for the strategic direction of PCI.
The company, based in Bridgend, Wales, in the United Kingdom, specializes in clinical trial services and temperature-controlled pharmaceutical services. In support of clinical trials, the company provides comparator sourcing and blinding; packaging, labeling and assembly of clinical trial medication kits; temperature-controlled storage and distribution; and QP and GMP consultancy services.
Biotec's expertise also includes the storage and distribution of advanced therapeutic medicinal products such as cell and gene therapies.
This acquisition follows on from PCI's purchase last month of Penn Pharma, adding pharmaceutical development and contained manufacturing services to its portfolio of clinical trial services, commercial packaging and laboratory services. And in 2013 PCI acquired AndersonBrecon, a pharmaceutical packaging and clinical trials services provider. Both of these businesses are also based in Wales.
According to PCI, the addition of Biotec will expand its ability in the United Kingdom and the European Union to support global investigational studies of medicinal products by adding packaging, storage and distribution capacity, as well as consultative services for clinical trial supplies.
PCI now has 16 facilities across North America and Europe.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
