A joint venture between Fluor Corporation and Technip has won another contract related to the RAPID project in Malaysia.

The latest agreement is an engineering, procurement and construction management contract which covers the utilities, interconnecting and offsites (UIO) scope of work.

Petronas previously awarded the two companies the program management consultancy contract for RAPID, the Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development.

RAPID is part of a huge integrated refinery and petrochemical complex in Pengerang, Johor, Malaysia. It will supply naphtha and liquid petroleum gas feedstock for the petrochemical part of the complex, and will also produce gasoline and diesel that meet European specifications.

The Pengerang Integrated Complex comprises RAPID and its associated facilities including a co-generation plant, liquefied natural gas (LNG) re-gasification terminal, air separation unit, a raw water supply project and other ancillary facilities.

The complex will have the capacity to produce 7.7 million metric tons per year of various grades of products, including differentiated and specialty chemicals.

Commenting on the new contract, Lim Kwee Keong, president of Technip in Asia Pacific, said: "With the RAPID UIO contract, we are proud to be able to support Petronas in an expanded presence to deliver this national project of strategic importance to Malaysia."

Ken Choudhary, president of Fluor's Energy & Chemicals business in the Asia region, also welcomed the deal and said that the RAPID project will have a significant positive impact on the Malaysian economy.

RAPID's refinery is scheduled to start operating by early 2019.
