LANXESS completes acquisition of Brazilian biocide manufacturer IPEL 

Specialty chemicals company LANXESS recently completed the acquisition of Itibanyl Produtos Especiais Ltda. (IPEL).  

IPEL, with headquarters in Jarinu, São Paulo, is one of Brazil’s leading biocide manufacturers and generated sales in the lower double-digit million Euro range in 2018. With the acquisition, LANXESS is strengthening its position as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of antimicrobial active ingredients and formulations. In addition to around 100 employees and the production facility, LANXESS has taken over the Brazilian company’s laboratory facilities.  

IPEL generates most of its sales with biocides and specialty chemicals for the paint and coating industry. The product portfolio also includes preservatives and fungicides for process control in water treatment, as well as active ingredients for disinfection and cleaning agents. 

LANXESS is a leading specialty chemicals company with sales of 7.2 billion Euros in 2018. The company currently has about 15,500 employees in 33 countries and is represented at 58 production sites worldwide. The core business of LANXESS is the development, manufacturing and marketing of chemical intermediates, additives, specialty chemicals and plastics.  

Elemica acquires transportation management firm Eyefreight 

Elemica, a digital supply network for manufacturing industries, recently acquired Eyefreight, a global leader in multi-modal SaaS Transportation Management Solutions (TMS). The combination creates a unified global logistics and supply chain network. Together, TMS clients can take full advantage of Elemica’s global end-to-end supply chain network while providing Elemica clients the ability to incorporate transportation management capabilities to their supply chain quickly.    

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.   

Hoffmann Neopac acquires hinged lid can production lines of Trivium Packaging  

The Swiss family-owned company Hoffmann Neopac, a global supplier of high-quality metal and plastic packaging for the pharmaceutical and FMCG industries, is acquiring the production lines for hinged lid cans from Trivium Packaging in the Netherlands. 

With this acquisition, Hoffmann Neopac strengthens its market position for specialty cans in Europe. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.  

Hoffmann Neopac is a private company based in Thun, Switzerland. The group produces metal and plastic packaging at six locations. In total, Neopac employs around 1,350 people, of which 520 are in Switzerland. 

Trivium Packaging is a global supplier of infinitely recyclable metal packaging for the world’s leading brands. Trivium has more than 60 locations worldwide, employs approximately 8,000 people.  

Olive Valves to expand facilities  

Global industrial valves manufacturer Oliver Valves has bought three units comprising 17,387 square feet, further extending the company’s significant presence in the wider Parkgate Industrial Estate in the United Kingdom. The company will use the facilities to expand its instrumentation, subsea and pipeline valves product range. 

The valve manufacturer currently owns eight buildings on the Parkgate Industrial Estate.

KORSCH AG names sales partner in Mexico 

KORSCH AG, a provider of tablet press technology, has appointed Bicor Technologies SA de CV as its exclusive sales and service partner in Mexico. 

BICOR Technologies has extensive experience with tablet compression equipment and will offer the full line of KORSCH machines. From a service and maintenance standpoint, Bicor Technologies employs local service engineers with full KORSCH factory training and features a KORSCH OEM spare parts inventory warehouse located in Mexico City. 

Founded in 1919 in Berlin, Germany, KORSCH AG focuses on the advancement of tablet press technology for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food, confectionary, technical and chemical products.  

Opto 22 takes 2020 Engineers’ Choice award for the Edge Controller category 

Opto 22 recently announced that, for the second year in a row, groov EPIC has been selected as a winner in Control Engineering’s Engineers’ Choice Awards. This year, groov EPIC took the award for the Industrial Internet of Things Connectivity — Edge Controller category. 

Groov EPIC is an edge programmable industrial controller (EPIC). More than a PLC, PAC or PC, it is a Linux-based processor in a compact industrial enclosure, with local I/O and wide-ranging programming and communications options. In addition to real-time control, groov EPIC provides the connectivity many of today’s projects require.: Iit connects to field sensors and devices, legacy PLC systems, software applications, remote equipment and cloud services for anything from weather conditions to big data analytics and predictive maintenance. 

Groov EPIC was invited to enter the awards program for a second time because of significant product updates in the previous year. Originally, groov EPIC launched with support for Opto 22’s PAC Control runtime engine and flowchart programming language.  

In late 2018, Opto 22 expanded the controller’s programming options by adding support for the popular CODESYS engine by 3S-Smart Software, which includes all IEC 61131-3 programming languages, including Function Block Diagram, Structured Text, Sequential Function Charts and Ladder Diagram.
