Honeywell has deployed connected refinery services, digital performance monitoring, and operator training solutions at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lekki, Nigeria, aimed at improving production efficiency and operational performance at the world’s largest single-train refinery.

The implementation includes Honeywell Performance+ Services, part of the company’s Connected Solutions portfolio, across several core processing units. The system combines advanced digital tools from the Honeywell Forge platform with engineering expertise from Honeywell UOP to provide real-time operational insights. These insights are designed to help identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions to optimize refinery performance and increase output of high-octane fuels from multiple feedstocks.

According to Honeywell, the integrated approach supports greater agility, reliability, and efficiency as global energy demand increases. The deployment is intended to enhance asset performance and improve overall operational visibility at the facility.

Honeywell is also providing Operator Training Simulators built using digital twins of the refinery. These systems allow personnel to train in realistic operating scenarios, enabling operators to test responses and improve decision-making in a controlled environment. The training program is designed to strengthen workforce readiness and support safe, reliable operations as production ramps up.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery stated that the solutions will support its objective of maximizing output and achieving operational efficiency while developing local talent. The facility produces Euro-V quality gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, along with polypropylene used in plastics and packaging.

The collaboration builds on nearly a decade of partnership between the companies. Honeywell’s refining technologies are expected to support an increase in the refinery’s capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day within three years, aimed at optimizing assets and accelerating product delivery to market.
