Bradley Pulverizer expands UK materials processing laboratory

The new laboratory enables more representative production-scale testing for fertilizer, mineral, and specialty material applications.

Bradley Pulverizer has expanded its materials processing laboratory at its new United Kingdom facility, increasing its ability to support larger-scale testing, process development, and production validation for manufacturers.

The investment comes as manufacturers face growing pressure to improve resource efficiency, evaluate alternative raw materials, and develop more sustainable production processes. According to Bradley Pulverizer, the expanded laboratory is designed to help bridge the gap between proof-of-concept testing and industrial-scale manufacturing.

A key enhancement is the laboratory’s ability to conduct larger-scale batch testing. The increased testing capacity allows for more representative production data, improved process measurements, and more accurate simulation of continuous industrial operations.

The facility is supporting research into sustainable fertilizer development, including the use of lower-grade phosphate rock, repurposed industrial waste streams, and fertilizer formulations designed to release nutrients more gradually. The laboratory also provides testing for process additives intended to improve product performance or reduce manufacturing emissions.

Bradley Pulverizer has expanded its classification testing capabilities with its Windsifter Stainless Steel Classifier. The unit supports applications requiring hygienic operation, corrosion resistance, or low contamination and can be configured for coarse or fine particle separation. Testing objectives include separating coarse and fine materials, dedusting chip material, and classification by bulk density. The system is suitable for metals, carbon materials, minerals, and specialty powders and can be inert-purged for explosive material testing.

The new laboratory is organized into dedicated testing areas for milling, acidulation processing, classification, granulation, calcining, moisture analysis, and particle size testing.

Two additions further expand the facility’s capabilities. The Lancaster K-1 Lab Mixer allows for precise evaluation of mixing and granulation formulations, helping ensure laboratory results translate effectively to industrial-scale production. A new fume cupboard enables the safe handling of larger test batches and supports more advanced process development activities.
